Inspection tips
Preparing an elevator for an inspection can be nerve-wracking. Here are some general tips to keep in mind. If you have any additional questions, please contact your state's elevator inspection office.
How to prepare for an elevator inspection
As required, inspections must be performed by certified elevator inspectors. OSHA requires that elevators are inspected at intervals not exceeding one year, with additional monthly inspections as needed. The records of those results must be posted inside each elevator, signed by the inspector who performed the work. As an owner/operator, you do have certain responsibilities to help ensure the elevator or conveyance system is ready for an inspection. The easiest way to ensure that your equipment is ready is to contact your inspector and to review these inspection guide checklists and reports prior to having the units inspected.
To help ensure that your next elevator inspection goes smoothly, we recommend that you look over your system with these inspection points in mind. If you have any questions, please contact your local elevator code enforcement division for guidance.
